Unicorn Thoughts During a Global Deep Breath

Mere weeks ago, much like many of you, I was travelling from city to city living out my best life without a care in the world. Who could have predicted that a disruption of any significance was looming around the corner, closing in to pop the happy bubble of our magical existence? But that’s precisely what happened. Today, like many other people, I find myself tucked away inside my house, hunkered down with nowhere to go and no one to see on a most eerily quiet, sunny morning.

Life as we know it has completely changed. Just like that, our day-to-day world has come to a shocking and rather abrasive halt. It feels like we’ve received a life “rugburn” of sorts and I would be lying if I didn’t admit that there’s an unpleasant burning sensation attached to the sting of this new reality, as it takes on more and more permanence daily.

COVID-19 has officially descended upon us and is violently making the rounds now – an invisible enemy from which no one is immune. The entire world is in the midst of a global pandemic, even as we vigorously pump the brakes to slow down the spread and take control of this pervasive enemy. As we’re forced to return to the basics and take in this deep global breath though, I can’t help but wonder if we’re all being grounded by Mother Nature, who in her infinite wisdom has decided to put us in this most epic timeout. It feels like we’ve all been sent to our rooms to think about who we are as a species, and what we’ve done to planet Earth and each other. Perhaps?

We’re more connected than we know

If there’s one thing I’m positive about, it’s that COVID-19 has shown us just how interconnected we truly are as a species. We think we’re divided by genders, skin colours, sexual orientations, class distinctions (rich and poor), religions, nations and more. But when the going gets tough, there’s no better time to open our eyes wide and recognize what I think we all know to be true: there’s far more that connects us than separates us. And now is the time to look for ways to support and look after one another as a single tribe, because we know from the truest place in our being that’s precisely what we are. We are ONE – a human collective that’s being given the opportunity to reboot and make a choice to live with higher consciousness.

And while I know many people are concerned about what’s coming in the days ahead, it’s imperative we don’t travel down that proverbial rabbit hole of worry and allow ourselves to become paralyzed with fear, panic or a state of impending doom. These are turbulent and unprecedented times, which I’m very sympathetic to, but it’s important to remember that no one is going through them alone.

Now is a time when we need to lean on each other because this new world includes lost jobs and wealth, children out of school, illness, death of loved ones, and global uncertainty that’s challenging many of us on a grand scale. But even though much of what’s happening is currently beyond our control, we do have the ability to control our thoughts, which dictate how we proceed through the storm. We have an incredible opportunity at this historic moment in time to adjust our sails through the turbulent waters and show up with higher consciousness to embrace the oneness of our humanity. This is our time to double down on the things that truly matter and grow into the best versions of ourselves.

Now more than ever we can choose to:

1. Look for ways to help others
2. Remember what matters
3. Simplify our lives
4. Take a deep breath
5. Love more and be kinder
6. Appreciate the little things
7. Think about the planet
8. Connect deeper within ourselves and others
9. Be a beacon of light and hope
10. Share toilet paper and other necessities we’ve taken for granted

As Maya Angelou said, “Hope and fear cannot occupy the same space at the same time.” I’m encouraging you to choose hope and use this time to become a better version of yourself so that you can do greater good in the world. Use this precious “alone” time to be of service and help in whatever way you can, big or small. It all matters. Choose to be the high consciousness person who grows, evolves and benefits others (unicorns). Do not be the low consciousness person who hurts someone else to save themselves (donkeys).

Now is your time… to look within, rediscover who you really are and remember your purpose. This is a global lesson to learn so don’t sit on the sidelines and close your eyes. Use this time wisely – this reboot affects everyone!

Now is our time… as one tribe, one species, to raise our collective consciousness and share our humanity. Go out there in the world with the intention of greater love and kindness, greater oneness and, yes, I’m going to say it… spare a square and share the toilet paper too for some extra kindness karma points! I promise that the rainbows will be ready to welcome us on the other side of this storm. They’re always there waiting. Until then, hang in there unicorns and continue to sparkle and shine your light brightly!
